While some people see Green Day as American idols, the band itself has a very different take on it’s home country. American Idiot is not only a shocking music track for American citizens but also a striking blow towards politicians and mainstream American culture. The song is a brave attempt by the band to criticize a country where they are praised, so it is not surprising that it is receiving mixed reactions from fans within America as well as music listeners around the world.
